Repairing Cast-Iron Staircase System.
At Modish welding and supply Inc, we specialized in restoring and replicating architectural/ historical cast-iron staircase system. We supply and install all components of the exiting case-iron stair system both ornamental and structural. Retain risers, stringers, newel post, pendant couplings, finials, treads, platforms etc. We do lots of onsite repairing projects from repairs of a single tread. Some other projects we have to carefully disassemble all components of the exiting cast-iron stairs system, both ornamental and structural. (Temporary wooden stairs install). Take the exiting cast-iron stairs to the foundry for sand blasting. After sand blasting, we evaluate each piece for reuse and restoration. Pieces that are broken (missing large sections) or warped beyond repair maybe disregarded. Any disregarded pieces shall be replaced-in-kind with new/salvaged. Retain risers, pendant couplings, all threads, platform, post newel finials, strip stairs shall be painted an alkyd corrosion-inhibiting primer. After that process we take it back to reassemble the stairs on site and tighten all bolts, screws and other connectors, where necessary to achieve a tight a stable assembly. Fill all cast-iron cracks and holes with an epoxy resin binder or polyester- based putty. Paint black with at least two rust-oleum finish coats.
